But I would love to get an opportunity to work on a project which can help our environment too. That’s why I want to work on the project which Keeps Forest Safe From Fire. This project will be simple but necessary for our system that needs high expertise to ensure accuracy. Smoke and fire detectors that can be placed in forests and linked with an electronic alert system. When a fire occurs, the authorities such as the fire department are automatically informed so they can take quick action.

If you love the environment, you’ll love projects like these.

AT: What is your opinion about the use of solar energy in buildings in general and houses in Pakistan visa vis cost of the project?

AS: Since Allah has given us a precious gift in a shape of Sun which shall be available till the qayamah. Now, it is our responsibility to utilize it efficaciously.

To answer your question, using solar energy in houses is very beneficial both in terms of cost savings and as a backup power supply. Especially after the introduction of Net Metering, the benefits of solar grid-tie systems has been doubled almost.

As far as the use of solar in buildings is concerned, if there is a commercial building then the benefits are the same as mentioned above. But if the building is residential type, then there are some limitations such as power distribution and billing which can be analyzed on case to case basis.

AT: How do you feel about the standard of engineering education at our institutions?

AS: That’s a tough question to answer as we all are aware of the standards of engineering education in most universities. It is not difficult to judge the quality and usefulness of colleges and universities? It is often said – perhaps rightly so that the real crisis in higher education is that of quality, not the individual institutions.

Higher education requires much more than just building structures and calling them universities or colleges. There is little to be gained from a department of English where the department’s head cannot speak or write a grammatically correct non-trivial sentence of English; a physics department where the head is confused about the operation of an incandescent light bulb; a mathematics department where graduate students have problems with elementary surds and roots. Nor does putting a big signboard advertising a “Centre of excellence” make it one. There are many colleges and universities in Pakistan where the above is literally true. On the other hand, there are also examples of high quality such as a world-class medical university and business school, and some good quality engineering and fine-arts colleges.

What I propose here that we must take the following factors

into consideration for better institutions:

  • Quality of teaching and teachers
  • Quality of student body
  • Adequacy of basics
  • Governance and ethics
  • General ambiance

AT: Any message for young professionals?

AS: My strong message to young fellows is to have faith in Allah (Intelligent faith) since He is all powerful and all knowing! I always leave things on Allah and pray for better results with firm belief. Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it’s unbelievable.

Allah created you for the purpose of serving Him in the lives of others. This will be your family, your friends, your community, your co-workers, and your future family. People you’ve never met are counting on having your good influence some day. Don’t mess it up!

Most importantly, Don’t compare yourself to others. Let Allah help you become whom He designed you to be. You have gifts and abilities that you have yet to discover and develop, so don’t lose hope!

Don’t freak out when you make a mistake, get confused or when things don’t go as you hoped. Go to Allah and let Him guide you through it. He is the only way towards success and happiness!

AT: What are your comments on the starting of this Newage Engineers Interview series? Do you think young professionals particularly students will be benefitted?

AS: This is encouraging step by Newage engineers interview for giving affiliation to engineers and an opportunity to discuss, receive honest and constructive feedback and get access to the information, knowledge, and experience from a more experienced engineer, who tried hard and struggle to give something to country and our field. It will be beneficiary for young engineers as they can idealize their mentors which can support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.
